Some pictures of Day 1
The white structure is Mission San Xavier located south of Tucson. When de Anza and his expedition departed from here in 1775, he was leaving the final outpost of New Spain's north American empire in Arizona. In fact, he would not encounter a Spaniard until he reached Mission San Gabriel in what is now Los Angeles .
